More homes at risk from weather damage, survey reveals

Bad weather poses an increasing risk to British homes, according to
one of the UK's leading home insurance providers.
A new study from Abbey Home Insurance has found that over the last
five year 11 per cent of UK homes have suffered damage.
Of these the majority of the homes needed repairs to roofs and
gardens, although 25 per cent had sustained damage in the interior
of the home.
The average payout meanwhile to amend the problem stands at
£2,699, the study showed.
Commenting on the findings, Lloyd Wilson, head of Abbey Home
Insurance product development, said: "Bad weather damage is a
costly inconvenience and for some people, especially in flood
areas, it is becoming a yearly nightmare.
"Our research shows that the risk of damage to our homes is an
ever-increasing reality and we need to be prepared for it."
He added: "The British weather is highly unpredictable but we can
all ensure that should the worst happen we are correctly insured by
having the right insurance."
