Mayor urged to press for funding

London mayor Boris Johnson has been urged to keep pushing for
funding to enable phase two of the East London line extension to go
ahead.
Members of the London assembly's transport committee have met Mr
Johnson and pressed him to intensify his efforts as he negotiates
with Transport for London and the Department for Transport over
funding for the phase.
Such an extension could mean that those areas which benefit from
the addition public transport access will see house prices
rise.
The East London Line was previously part of the tube system running
between Shoreditch and New Cross, but has been switched to become
part of the new London Overground network.
Originally a line with nine stations, it will have 30 stops if all
the proposed extensions are completed.
These will stretch the line as far as West Croydon, Clapham and
Islington.
