Landlords of student accommodation 'see rents rise'

Landlords with properties to rent in university towns will be
interested to hear that prices are rising in these areas
disproportionately to other places in the country.
Last week, Lloyds TSB revealed that more and more first-year
students are choosing to live in private rental properties than in
university halls.
This, it showed, had an effect on the house prices in the region,
boosting growth in more than 60 per cent of university towns in
Britain.
National Union of Students president Aaron Porter stated that young
people were being affected by the "significant increase in the cost
of living and escalating rent prices".
Earlier this month, accommodationforstudents.com reported that
there was a sharp rise in the price of rents during 2010.
It revealed that the average property cost for students per week
rose by 4.3 per cent during the year from £62.61 to
£65.30.
This is significant news for landlords with properties to rent in
the UK as the rental increase was just 1.6 per cent between 2008
and 2009 and 1.7 per cent the year.
